About Us

awful/FANTASTIC! is a newly formed, artist-led initiative based in Aylesbury, Bucks whose aim is to contribute to creating, encouraging and promoting a dynamic contemporary art climate within Aylesbury and the Vale.

Our aims are to present themed art shows to explore and respond to contemporary art issues in alternative exhibiting sites and venues. Other activities will also include networking and professional development opportunities and events for all members.

We aim to become a thriving and proactive network of visual artists whose working practices are open to exploring and responding to contemporary art issues and debates. We hope that the combination of our exhibiting opportunities and professional development events will enrich both the individual working practices and overall artistic experience of our membership, increase the visibility of their work and contribute to the promotion of Aylesbury and the Vale as a vibrant environment for creative practice.

One of the ways we are hoping to attract financial support is the introduction of ‘Patronage’ and we have included some information about this on our Support Us web page.

We have included a Media page on the website, which we hope to steadily fill as we promote ourselves strongly for each exhibition.

We very much see awful/FANTASTIC! as a proactive and collaborative network for our members so would encourage any feedback you may have from our activities to date, for example venue suggestions and innovative ways of attracting financial support in order that we may grow and develop, together with any other comments or suggestions you may have.

awful/FANTASTIC! welcomes artists from Buckinghamshire and surrounding counties with a wide range of disciplines, which at present include painting, sculpture, photography, digital art and installation.
